Our Dreams and Aspirations
We Dominicans don’t just want to escape poverty – we must thrive! We must be able to consume desired goods and services well beyond basic necessities. Our people want to own aesthetically attractive homes that are well-furnished and well-appointed. Our people want to live in safe and attractive neighbourhoods. We want to own attractive and comfortable vehicles to allow us the mobility to enjoy our beautiful land. We want to enjoy leisure activity and be able to travel for vacation. We certainly want to be able to set aside adequate savings for retirement and emergencies and to assist with the tertiary education of our children! We desire health insurance and adequate access to health care to put our minds at ease and take care of our families should the

misfortune of major illness occur – something that can throw many into poverty. We want to be able to enjoy the kind of lifestyle enjoyed by the middle class in North America and Europe. That is why many of our people migrate to these places. They are pursuing that middle-class dream. Many of our young people are desperate to leave our shores as they see very little hope for a bright future in Dominica. But we call on our people to have hope! The Dominica Freedom Party will pursue strategies to enable all Dominicans to achieve that middle class dream right here at home. We want our people who reside oversees to partner with us. This homeland is also for you and your posterity.

Save Our Country!
We are sounding a clarion call to Dominicans at home and abroad to help save our land. Save our country from sinking further into poverty. Save our country from tyranny. Save our democracy. What would it take? First and foremost, it will take replacing the current government with a government of integrity. Help us get there. Integrity is the most important ingredient that the Dominica Freedom Party will bring to the table. The DFP will also be pragmatic – we will seek to pursue the right strategies appropriate to the prevailing circumstances but we will be flexible in the face of changes. Public servants and other national stakeholders must be motivated to perform to their full potential and we must seek out the best skills among us (at home and abroad) to govern the country. Importantly, there should be an appropriate institutional framework for preparing appropriate plans and for effectively implementation. Strategic and systems thinking will be the hallmark of the DFP’s approach to planning. Attracting development financing will certainly be a key ingredient for achieving the results we want and as would be the efficiently use of the resources free of corruption. But the people must always remain at the centre of development rather than the self-interest of a few!

Democracy Under Threat
What were a people to do to protect their democracy and their freedom and to stop the country from sliding further into lawlessness and widespread poverty? The people were surely prevented from doing so through their right to freely and fairly chose a government. This situation existed during the 2014 elections, but the means to prevent free and fair elections became much more brazen during the 2019 general elections. The incumbent administration ignored every peaceful attempt to get them to be reasonable and in particular to pursue a voter-reregistration exercise and to issue voter ID cards. They ignored every reasonable recommendation from local stakeholders, from elections observers of the two previous elections, and from the special joint mission of August 2019 fielded by the OAS, CARICOM and the Commonwealth Secretariat. I am a patriotic Dominican! Are you? Indeed, it is time to be true to our National Anthem. Consider these lines therein and let us be inspired by them: “Come he forward sons and daughters – do the right be firm be fair” The opening line of the National Anthem proclaims our country as the Isle of Beauty and Splendour. Let us use that rich and rare gift for our own benefit and that of our children and future generations. We must preserve and share that gift with the world.
